I have read some example blogs and noticed that couple of them have speaking avatars. It looks great! So I followed the link and found an interesting site: http://www.voki.com
Here you can create your speaking avatar.
I have used similar programs earlier (http://www.sitepal.com/), bet they had a little bit different purpose - I used them for pronunciation. My students typed text and the avatar pronounced them, so they heard the pronounciation and could learn to pronounce correct. Here is one example: http://www.sitepal.com/ttswidgetdemo?mId=48958771.3
Hi
ReplyDeletewell done! you are an expert Jurgita. Please tell me how to add the voki.
regards
Kayyum
Thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to create a speaking avatar. You need:
1. to go to www.voki.com
2. to create an account
3. to choose avatar, his/her haircut, etc.
4. to write the words you want to hear
5. to publish
6. to copy html code
7. to put your code on the page
That's all.
Good luck!
P.S. If you create one, please show me ;-)
Hi Jurgita
Deletethanks for educating.I have tried and made my Voki successfully but when it comes the matter of downloading or embedding it to our blog they demand registration.I hate such things because later they send spam and ask to buy.Again ,the Sitepal is also great and there is the same problem. Is there any other site which provides it for free?
regards
Kayyum
Hello,
DeleteDon't be afraid of registration. I have registered to Voki and to Sitepal and to many others, but I don't get any spam in my mailbox. Creating your account you can choose the newsletters you want to get. You need to leave blank the boxes next to the suggested newsletters and you won't get any. Try it :)
Best,
Jurgita
Hi Jurgita
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice blog. There are a lot of good stuffs. I like the voky Avatar gadget. It opens new doors to teaching and learning. you mentioned using a tying sofware to help your students improve their tying skills, are you teaching a language class? I would be interested to know how your curriculum integrates language learning and computer skills in your country specially for young learners?
I am looking for your coming posts!
Abdoulaye
Thank you. Blogging is very new to me, so I write things I think about.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am teaching a language class, but I teach it integrated with IT. I teach CLIL lessons (Content and Language Integrated Lessons). This means that I teach English and Computer Science in one lesson. Such lessons are not very popular in our country yet, because only few teachers are able to teach in such way. But they are in great demand and we try to prepare more CLIL teachers.
For young learners, we try tablets. There are a lot of apps for learning basic things. We play games and learn language simultaneously.
Best,
Jurgita
