This week I am working on my project...
My CLASS:
There are 6 children in the class. They are 11-12 years old. There are 4 computers, a multimedia projector, and some other equipment in the classroom.
THE PROBLEM:
The bad usage of the vocabulary in context
THE SOLUTION:
I decided to focus on the sentence writing level.
Now I am working on building Moodle site. The next step will be 'Hot Potatoes' exercises.
Hi Jurgita
ReplyDeleteI think your project idea is coming together and making sense, like the pieces of a puzzle coming together to make a picture.
For me, I would probably avoid negative descriptors that have value judgment like "bad usage of vocabulary." I think with learning there are many mistakes made along the way, and often those errors are a natural part of the learning process. Of course you want to get your students to a higher level of mastery. But I wouldn't say knowledge or skills at the 3rd level is "bad" while native speakers are "good."
One with a class I had there were some students who were acting out and giving me a headache everyday. I told someone I worked with what a bad group this was. My co-worker restated "bad": as "challenging," suggesting there was a way to inspire them if I could be smart and patient and look for a way to get them onboard with what we were doing. I sometimes laugh at myself when I feel tempted to call a student or class "bad" nowadays, and instead look at it as a challenge. Indeed it is a euphemism, but it works too, as it reminds me I am in control of the situation and can reach my students and allow learning to happen if I can just rise to that challenge.

Hello Robert,
ReplyDeleteYour comments as always are very useful. I also like the time when the dreams come true, but I am a little bit afraid of my final project. As you noticed, I have had big ambitions for it, but the time goes and I haven't done a lot yet...But I like challenges, so I hope I do it in time :)
Best,
Jurgita
